Residents of Seattle are being warned of possible thunderstorms over the next two days, which will bring a sharp drop in temperatures. According to meteorologists, thunderstorms are expected Friday and Saturday as cold air masses invade the upper atmosphere. Experts advise avoiding boat outings on lakes, as lightning poses a serious danger.
The storms may be accompanied by brief downpours, hail and lightning, but total precipitation will be small — less than 2.5 millimeters on Friday and up to 6 millimeters on Saturday. Temperatures will be well below the climatic norm: on Friday thermometers will rise to only 12°C, and on Saturday to 13°C, whereas this time of year Seattle is usually around 19°C. Snow is expected in the mountains: several centimeters are forecast at Stevens Pass, and 10 to 20 centimeters on Mount Rainier.
The good news is the wet weather won’t last: by Sunday the rains will end, giving way to cloudiness, and sunshine may appear in the afternoon. Next week will bring warm, dry conditions to Seattle — by Wednesday–Thursday temperatures should reach 20°C, allowing residents to put the bad weather behind them for a few days.
