The statewide outdoor burning ban enacted amid extreme fire danger expires at noon Wednesday. It prohibited campfires, the burning of yard waste and debris, land clearing and weed burning, while allowing fires in designated, protected areas. King County, however, has a stricter Level 2 ban in effect that prohibits all campfires, and the Seattle Fire Department is urging city residents to follow those restrictions. Charcoal, natural gas and propane devices are allowed if placed on a noncombustible surface, such as concrete. No end date has been set for the county and city bans.
Although no new fires had been reported as of Tuesday morning, several large fires continue to burn in Washington. The Little Giant Fire northwest of Leavenworth is 91% contained, the Sisi Fire near Stehekin is 15% contained, the Three Queens Fire near Snoqualmie Pass is 33% contained, and the Sinlahekin Fire near Tonasket is 93% contained. According to the coordination center’s forecast, cooler weather and rain will reduce the risk of fire spread in western Washington, but fire conditions remain moderately hazardous in central and southeastern parts of the state.
