Seattle celebrated the 50th anniversary of Freeway Park, an unusual urban space built above Interstate 5 in the heart of the city. The park was one of the first examples in the United States of transforming concrete transportation infrastructure into a public area with greenery, walkways and places to relax. Its anniversary has once again drawn attention to how downtown Seattle and residents’ attitudes toward large-scale road infrastructure have changed.
