Seattle Senior Centers Open Their Doors to Toddlers

Former teacher and school librarian Marlene Peters settled into the familiar lobby of the Bayview center this month and began reading a favorite book to a dozen restless toddlers. The scene was part of a program that brings preschoolers and older adults together in the same space, allowing the older generation to share their experience and attention while giving children the chance to connect with new adult mentors. This “full-circle care” model helps strengthen intergenerational bonds and makes Seattle’s community centers more welcoming to residents of all ages.
