King County food safety ratings are back online

After an almost seven-month break, the map of food safety ratings and inspection information for food establishments in King County, Washington, is back up and running. The county health department explained the long lapse in updates as a result of a transition to a new permitting system — data had not been published since Nov. 26. During that time, site visitors could not view up-to-date information on inspections or closures. The department has now launched an updated version of the map after creating and testing a new platform to display the data.

The interactive map allows users to find a specific establishment by name or address, filter results by rating (using emojis for clarity), and view inspection history. Officials also promised further improvements to make the service “more user-friendly.” This is an important step for residents of the area, who can once again easily assess the safety and sanitary conditions of local restaurants and cafés.
