A high-level Venezuelan delegation will take part in African Energy Week 2026, to be held in Cape Town from October 12 to 16. The forum will focus on concluding agreements and granting concessions across the energy value chain, as well as attracting capital for new projects. Venezuelan representatives will hold talks with African oil companies and investors on restoring the country’s hydrocarbons sector, cooperating on workforce training, and expanding energy trade.
The delegation will include Ricardo Gómez, Deputy Minister for Trade Policy at the Ministry of Hydrocarbons; Celia Bejarano, rector of the Venezuelan University of Hydrocarbons; and Carlos Espinosa, an adviser to the ministry’s oil division. The visit will build on the rapprochement that began after the African Energy Chamber traveled to Caracas in February. At that time, the chamber signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and state-owned PDVSA on exploration and production, refinery modernization, supplies of liquefied petroleum gas and bitumen to Africa, and technical training. The parties also established a joint working group to seek investment and coordinate strategic projects. Venezuela retains its status as an honorary member of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO).
