Venezuela is participating in the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, being held in the United Arab Emirates from September 26 to October 1. The event focuses on accelerating crime-prevention measures, strengthening criminal justice and the rule of law, and protecting people and the environment in the context of the digital age and implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda. The country’s delegation is headed by Ambassador to the UAE Nabil Abdul Khalek and also includes representatives of the prosecutor’s office, the diplomatic corps, and Venezuela’s Permanent Mission to international organizations.
In his national statement, Abdul Khalek thanked the host country and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for organizing the forum. He stressed that Venezuela views crime prevention not only as a responsibility of the state and law-enforcement system, but also as the result of civic participation. The country’s representative highlighted measures to promote legal awareness, equal access to justice, social integration, and the protection of vulnerable groups. He also called for the use of digital technologies to modernize criminal justice and combat organized crime. The delegation stated its readiness to cooperate with the international community through technical assistance, dialogue, and the exchange of successful practices, in accordance with international law.
