Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez presided over the signing ceremony for an agreement on the second phase of a license to explore, develop and produce non-associated natural gas at the Lorán field, located in Block 2 of the Deltana Platform. The contract was signed by PDVSA Gas and an international consortium comprising Britain’s BP, the UAE’s XRG and Qatar’s UCC; Shell previously carried out the project’s first phase. According to Rodríguez, after 23 years Venezuela has been able to give new momentum to gas production at the major field, located near the Manati field off the coast of Trinidad and Tobago. The authorities expect the development of Lorán to enable the country to become a gas exporter and benefit not only Venezuela but other nations as well.
