Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez, together with Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello Rondón and Defense Minister Gustavo González López, presented a new plan for preventive urban patrols. In the coming days, the authorities intend to eliminate police roadblocks (“alcabalas”) in cities and increase patrols on the streets to make the security system more effective, professional, and respectful of citizens’ rights. According to Rodríguez, the reform aims to create a model that is closer to the population and focused on the comprehensive protection of Venezuelan families. The meeting also addressed improvements to the prison system: the government plans to cooperate with the International Committee of the Red Cross to conduct a detailed assessment of conditions in places of detention.
