Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez said that one of the power transmission lines knocked out by the twin earthquakes on June 24 would be brought back online on Sunday. This will allow the restoration of power loads to continue and gradually normalize the operation of the National Electric Power System. According to Rodríguez, the Carabobo Thermal Power Plant is expected to restore about 75% of its capacity after sustaining damage.
A key stage will come on October 1, when Unit No. 6 at the Planta Centro power plant is scheduled to be launched, adding 600 megawatts to the system. Rodríguez stressed that the government is carrying out restoration work around the clock and urged residents to use electricity sparingly and support the authorities’ efforts, emphasizing the need for “national unity.”
