Diosdado Cabello, secretary general of Venezuela’s United Socialist Party (PSUV), called for a nationwide mobilization on October 7 to commemorate Hugo Chávez’s victory in the 2012 presidential election. As part of the events, the party will also organize joint activities with the PSUV’s youth wing to honor the memory of Robert Serra—a young political activist and supporter of “Chavism”—whose death anniversary falls during this period. Cabello stressed the continued relevance of Chávez’s ideas, as well as the party’s commitment to peace and national sovereignty. He added that, following the recent double earthquake, PSUV activists continue to work in La Guaira state, providing direct assistance to those affected and paying particular attention to people in need of medical support.
