Pistachios climb in price amid tensions around Iran

US-Israeli military tensions around Iran, the world's second-largest pistachio producer, have pushed prices for the nut to eight-year highs. A market already suffering from chronic supply shortages, trade restrictions and international sanctions has faced additional shocks amid rising global demand, leading to a sharp surge in costs.

Per capita, Chad became Africa's largest host country, taking in 1.4 million refugees, more than 900,000 of whom fled Sudan. The latest wave followed an RSF offensive on the North Darfur city of El Fasher, where RSF reportedly killed 6,000 people in three days in October. A recent UN report accused RSF of atrocities amounting to war crimes and possible crimes against humanity. Some reports say up to 400,000 people have died since the start of the conflict.
