Israeli forces again entered southern Syria and carried out searches in several communities in Quneitra province. According to local sources, five military vehicles arrived in the village of Jabata al-Khashab in the northern part of the province and searched one of the houses. A temporary checkpoint was also set up in the village of Saida al-Jolan, where passersby were checked.
Another unit of six vehicles entered the town of al-Rafid at night and searched a residential building. Reconnaissance drones were also active over the area. Local residents heard Israeli military aircraft flying over Quneitra, as well as over the southern districts of As-Suwayda province, located near the border with Jordan.
The actions followed a similar advance by Israeli forces in the Yarmouk Valley area in western Daraa province. There, eight military vehicles moved from the Tal Abu al-Ghaytar crossing toward the village of Jamla and took up positions on a bridge in the village of Saysun, amid residential neighborhoods. Periodic gunfire toward the Wadi Maaria area was also reported. The escalation in southern Syria has continued for several months and includes house raids, the detention of civilians, and the establishment of military posts. Tensions intensified after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, when Israel announced the termination of the 1974 Agreement on Disengagement and established control over the buffer zone.
