Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez, in an interview with international media, summed up the first months of her term, which began in January, and spoke about the achievements of 2026. She placed the main emphasis on opening up the economy: according to her, the country has already begun diversifying, attracting long-term foreign investment, and returning to global markets. “We are opening up the economy for the benefit of our people,” the head of state said, adding that all decisions are made with citizens’ well-being and socio-economic stability as the priority.
Turning to the political landscape, Rodríguez stressed the need for institutional transformation and the transition to a “new political era,” where coexistence and peaceful dialogue are possible. Elections in the country will be held when all political actors reach mutual understanding—only then, she said, can the nation be assured of politicians’ readiness. She also noted her willingness to jointly fight drug trafficking and transnational organized crime, and expressed hope for the development of diplomatic relations based on goodwill.
In the area of justice, the president said she asked the UN Office for Human Rights to conduct an audit of prisoners’ releases: external oversight, in her view, will confirm that the government’s commitments have been fulfilled. Concluding her remarks, Rodríguez said that Venezuela is ready for reconstruction, centered on “the person in all their manifestations.” She also placed herself among the ranks of Venezuelan leaders whom the outlet has featured throughout history—from Marcos Pérez Jiménez and Rómulo Betancourt to Hugo Chávez.
